Great West Beef & Bison Inc. was
established to build a federally- and EU-inspected slaughter and
processing plant in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. The completed
plant will have an annual capacity of 60,000 head and will
process cull cows, bulls, white fat cows, bison,
dairy cattle and finished fats. It will also feature a fully
automated traceability system.
With completion of its start-up phase, the project will commence
a public share offering. As an initiative to add value to
agriculture in the province, plant ownership will, at a minimum,
consist of 51 percent ownership by farmers, ranchers and First
Nations.
